Hello mommies,

I had a really bad experience with Lovina Shahid (sugarspooncakery) unfortunately and wanted to share it here for everyone's benefit. I had hired her to do the cake for my daughter's first birthday after I read good reviews about her on this forum. However , I cannot comment on the quality of her work because I will not get to see it!

I called her wednesday morning to confirm if everything was in place (my daughter’s party is this Saturday) and she told me that she has not ordered the tools that were needed to get the design on the cake and that she will do it by hand. And she will only do the design on the side of the cake and not on the top as agreed upon earlier. Then she said that she does not even have the tool to do the pearl string at the base of the cake. Understandably, hearing this made me nervous (as she didn't sound very confident of doing the design by hand). However I kept my fingers crossed hoping that she will deliver on what she promised and will bake a good cake for my daughter.

But an hour after our phone conversation she emailed saying that she will not be doing the cake for us and that we should find someone else! (Please read her email below). How can she be so unprofessional? She backed out just 2 days before my daughters b'day party! As a first time mom, it is natural for me to be nervous planning my daughter's first birthday party. I did call her back telling her that it is very unprofessional of her to do that. To which she replied and I quote her exact words "I do not care! I don't have to prove myself! Everyone in newport knows my work." This is a very arrogant reply and according to me the fact that "she" cancelled proves that she herself was not confident of her ability to design the cake!

Lovina may a be a good baker but with this attitude and work ethic she can bake and eat her own cake! I would never recommend her to anyone but if you do hire her, I suggest you have a backup ready! Thankfully Carlo's bakery in Hoboken agreed to do the cake for me on such a short notice and for the same price!

EMAIL from Lovina Shahid 1:27 PM (5 hours ago) to me
As you mentioned, you are concerned about my abilities to make this cake and me not having proper tools, I suggest you should get this cake from Carlos bakery, whom you are comfortable and have done business previously. It is better for for you and me. It's a first birthday and I think you should be happy at the end.

Wow this is definitely not good. I came to the website looking for recommendations for cake for my kids birthdays - now I definitely know where I am not going. Thank you for posting this update.

I'm sure Carlos will do a fabulous job, they did my baby shower cake - it was super expensive but absolutely gorgeous!
