Hi Mommies,

I took my 4 yr old son for his 1st dentist visit yesterday and the doctor (Dr. Sejal Patel, Tooth Works NYC) told me that he has 13 cavities!!! 13 of his 20 teeth are not healthy…. Some worse than others. She is talking about multiple fillings, crowns, sedating him and so on. I am in a state of complete shock and want to make sure I get a second and possibly a third opinion before we take any further action.

We have been brushing his teeth every day since before he turned 2 years old. We have been using fluoride toothpaste and electric toothbrush for over a year now. He doesn't have a sweet tooth so hardly ever eats cake, ice cream or any such usual culprits – he eats candies at times, though. He has never had soda. The doc said he can develop cavities from chocolate milk and juice alone, which would be acceptable to me if he had 1 or 2 cavities. With 13, I find that hard to digest.

I would really appreciate any help in this matter. If you can recommend a pediatric dentist or if you know of any child under the age of 5, who has undergone fillings or crowns, please mail me. I would like to know about your experience and understand what I can expect from it. Right now, I am just not able to come to terms with it!

Thanks a lot!!

Regards,

Renu

My 4 year son has undergone multiple fillings/crowns and has had to be sedated a total of four times in order to get all his dental work done.  We have spent thousands of dollars fixing his baby teeth.  So I definitely know what you're going through.  I'll send you a PM with my contact info.
