Event Description

JERSEY CITY--- Cathedral Arts Live is thrilled to welcome celebrated blues artist and Jersey City resident John Hammond to the stage November 16 2018 at 7 p.m.

Legendary Blues Guitarist  and Grammy Award-Winner John Hammond is one of music’s most accomplished acoustic blues artists, with a career that continues to be strong after six decades. His self-titled debut on Vanguard Records in 1962 was the first of more than 30 albums, including his most recent release, 2014’s Timeless.

Hammond, who has played well over 4,000 shows during his career, has been nominated for numerous Grammy Awards, from 1993’s Got Love if You Want It to 2010’s Rough & Tough.  He won a Grammy in 1985 for Blues Explosion, a compilation from the Montreux Jazz Festival.  He has performed or recorded with dozens of artists, including Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf, and wrote the soundtrack for the 1970 Dustin Hoffman film, ‘Little Big Man.’

Hammond was the Blues Music Award winner for Acoustic Artist of the Year in 2011, the same year he was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame. In 2012, Hammond was inducted into the New York Blues Hall of Fame.

"John's sound is so compelling, complete, symmetrical and soulful with just his voice, guitar and harmonica, it is at first impossible to imagine improving it," says his longtime friend and collaborator Tom Waits. "He's a great force of nature. John sounds like a big train coming. He chops them all down." For more information:  johnhammond.com
