When I first arrived in the US.. little did I know that the glamor of the Big Apple wears off fast enough for people who are pampered at home with moms cooking, help in the kitchen etc etc etc.. I quite literally did not know how to boil an egg.
Fast forward 12 yrs and counting, I know how to work my way around the kitchen. I have experimented with spices, followed YouTube videos half way through (and then decided that my Cooking Math/Science is essentially a perfect Art!) and…Continue

I have no patience for pedicures and as a result, most of the time, the soles of my feet are cracked and gory! While I dont like sitting down in one place for a pedicure, I love spending on a variety of products. So I have bought all kinds of ' cracked heel' ointments and creams, various kinds of machines and must honestly report that they are safely sitting in my closet (used once at the most).
But this winter, I decided to dedicate 2 mins of…Continue

My move to the suburban world began almost 11 years back. I had lived in big cities all my life and the thought of moving to the suburbs was daunting to say the least.
My husband urged by relatives told me it was a good time to buy a house.
I was new to the country as well as a new mom. We lived in ‘immigrant heaven’ Jersey City waterfront where I could walk to everything and form friendships in the elevator of my building. This made me resistant to this idea of moving to the…Continue

It’s that time of the year when some of you have probably sent out several copies of your kid's best photos to family and friends wishing them a happy holiday season and yet another group has realized today that its a tad bit late to send anything saying "Happy Holidays" out. (I belong to the latter group - I haven't sent any cards out.)
I totally believe that it’s a good idea to send heartfelt wishes to near and dear ones AND…Continue

Happy Father's Day!! As I shared a poem and article on Mother's Day, I thought I would share a poem and a fun learning time that Dads ( and Moms) can do with the child. This time, it is for students as young as first grade through fifth grade.
I hope all Fathers enjoyed the beautiful Father's Day; we thought it was going to be a rainy one, however, it turned out to be a beautiful and lovely day. The blessings that we get….surprising and multiplied...…Continue

June 8, 2015 ( a beautiful and lovely Monday)
It has been a month since my last post on the importance of understanding and acknowledging Multiple Intelligences in children's learning process. I wrote that I am going to post couple of fun exercises for your family to work together. These particular problems are intended for children as young as 3.5 years through 7 years old. It all depends on your child's skills, hence I encourage you to be imaginative and creative in…Continue
Question) My child has a hard time sitting still – should I be worried?

This piece might not be coming out as I planned it on May 8th, 2015. I am dealing with a loss of a very close colleague of mine due to her “winning” over ovarian cancer along with two more issues that are personal in my life. I am not giving an excuse; rather, I am trying to accept that “life happens”, and when “life happens”, more often than not, all we can do is to accept and move on ( and I am biting my tongue while writing the sentence). I am trying to move on, slower than usual,…Continue
